Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can anyone join the team?

Absolutely!  We have a no-cut team consisting of athletes with a wide range of abilities;  beginners all the way through Junior National Qualifiers.  Everyone is welcome, and we have talented coaches who can help athletes of all abilities improve.

When do we practice?

Swim team practices are Monday-Friday, 3:30-5:00 PM at the Castle Rock Rec Center.

Do we have morning swim practices?

Morning practices will be every Tuesday from 5:30-6:45 AM at the Castle Rock Rec Center; however, they have not yet started.  Look to the Practice Calendars for more information.  The practices are not required, but offer a great opportunity for additional work in the pool.

When do we have meets?

Our dual meets are generally Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays with Invitationals throughout the season that are scheduled on Saturdays.

Will transportation be provided for the athletes to the meets?

In the past we have taken busses to away dual meets, however, this is no longer a cost appropriate option for our team.  Additionally, the district bus availability is very slim and conflicts with our needed transportation time.  As a team, we work together to help teammates find transportation to away meets through carpools.

Are there tryouts for making Varsity?

There are no tryouts for Varsity & Junior Varsity as these positions are ever-changing, sometimes meet to meet.  Swimmers and Divers are entered into Varsity or JV events during meets. There may be athletes who are always entered in Varsity events, or always entered into JV events, but for most of the team these positions are often interchangeable.

What are your requirements Academically?

A student-athlete is academically eligible to compete for our team by completing AND passing 2.5 units of class from the previous semester.  Students without 2.5 credits are not eligible to compete until a date determined by CHSAA.  The athlete may participate however, but the athletic fee will not be waived or refunded under these circumstances.

Douglas County HS Eligibility Policy-

Student-athletes must be enrolled in a minimum of 5 classes which offer, in aggregate, a minimum of 2.5 Carnegie units of credit per semester and must pass a minimum of the equivalent of 2.5 Carnegie units.  Teacher Aide classes only count for .25 Carnegie Units.

Eligibility will be checked every 6-weeks.  Any student who is not passing a total of 5 classes will be ineligible to participate in an interscholastic competition for the next 6 weeks.  They are allowed to practice but can’t complete in contests during this time.

Castle View HS Eligibility Policy-

A weekly grade eligibility reports is run on Thursdays and given to Coaches.  If a student has 2 or more F’s, the student is not eligible to compete for the following week

Are Club Swimmers allowed to participate with their Club Team during the HS swim season?

Swimmers who are part of a year-round club team CAN participate with both their HS and Club team during the season.

What are the practice attendance requirements for Club Swimmers?

We ask that our club swimmers attend 50% or more of our team's practices per week.  On average that means a swimmer will participate in at least 3 of our teams 6 practices a week when we don't have a meet.

What are the practice attendance requirements for Non-Club Swimmers?

We ask that our non-club swimmers attend 80% or more of our team's practices per week.  Only practice will further better a swimmer's skills and properly prepare them for competition.

What do you require for team practice gear?

For practice gear, we ask that athletes to have a practice suit, swim cap and goggles.  In addition, we will use the following tools during practices, so it's recommended swimmers obtain these items as well:

  • kickboard
  • pull buoy & paddles
  • fins
  • snorkel (optional)
  • a mesh bag to keep these items together

What team apparel is required?

For team unity during meets, we ask that all athletes purchase a team suit.  Out of Breath facilitates an online store where all team apparel and practice gear can be purchased.

Additionally, all swimmers will receive a team shirt for the season.
